Trump’s plan to use DOJ to block Alaska senate outcome

Donald Trump’s willingness to go “all-Mussolini” is perfectly clear. The most recent evidence is his decision to order the Department of Justice to intervene in the Alaska Senate election if the Republican candidate does not win. Here is the New York Times story, which no doubt you’ve seen:

An action like this would be a direct assault on democratic institutions and our commitment to counting votes and allowing them to determine the outcomes of elections. It would warrant immediate and decisive response from the Congress and the Supreme Court. And the public should respond with massive demonstrations, with courage and persistence.

If Trump’s DOJ takes such an action, every member of Congress should be united in its condemnation of this outrage against the rights of all of us. A rapid impeachment should be undertaken, and the requisite number of Republican members should be persuaded to support the impeachment. And the U.S. Senate should then rapidly vote a 2/3 majority to convict Trump and remove him from office. This requires persuading a dozen Republican Senators to support the conviction. Let them be patriots now and recognize that Trump represents a mortal threat to our democracy.

Impeach and convict this amoral, anti-democratic fascist and racist dictator, remove him from office (as should have happened in his second impeachment following his betrayal of the nation on January 6, 2021), and help us return to the hard work of restoring our democracy. Trump’s speech and actions are no longer merely a partisan issue; they represent an existential threat to the survival of our republic.
