Another step towards fascist dictatorship: Stephen Miller as Chief of Staff

Lame duck president Donald Trump’s decision to appoint Stephen Miller as White House Chief of Staff is very bad news for the likely behavior of the Trump administration for the next two years. Miller is an extremist with no commitment to the values of democracy or the rule of law. And he is the main architect of the administration’s anti-immigrant strategies and law-breaking use of violence against immigrants, protesters, and mistaken-identity victims. In recent months he floated the idea that the Department of Justice would suspend rights of habeas corpus — a key constitutional protection for all of us. In a recent post I compared Miller’s policies and actions to those of Adolph Eichmann in creating plans to deport one million Jews per year from Europe to Madagascar. And Miller’s influence on Trump is almost hypnotic, it seems. So we must be prepared for a new wave of desperate, lawless, and cruel actions and policies emanating from the White House and the minions who serve it. The threat of fascist lawlessness has not passed!
