Right-wing extremist violence is more frequent and more deadly

The reckless and dangerous claims by administration leaders, including Stephen Miller, that a vast leftist conspiracy is committing most political violence are another MAGA fabrication …. Here are the data.

Thanks, Dan. Clearly we can’t and won’t condone any sort of violence, but this is not even close. And yet the lying continues, and Trump is out there excusing for right-wing violence as “anti-crime.” Welcome to Cloud CuckooLand. I miss the days when, as Daniel Patrick Moynihan said everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but no one is entitled to their own facts. How do we overcome this?

  2. Great points, Gary! One of my favorite observers of the slide towards dictatorship is Timothy Snyder. Here’s a recent post on Substack about the use of lies and the naked militarization of US society through the use of National Guard and marine units in American cities. “These urban self-invasion deployments are a trap for for other service members. By sending troops to city after city, Trump is creating the statistical likelihood that something will happen – a suicide of a service member conflicted by an illegal and immoral mission, a friendly fire incident, the shooting of a protestor – that they can use to manufacture some greater crisis by lying about it. Or they can wait for their Russian friends to stage something, or for one right-wing person to shoot another, and then blame the opposition.”

Thanks, Gary and Dan! They are on offense, daily, and on myriad fronts. It feels impossible to defend everything. But of course that is what they want us to feel, so that we will give up. Well, I refuse. This is still hard to take in, but it is happening. Now. And we must respond with everything we’ve got…before it’s too late. They have not won it all yet. And if we the people will rise up together, we can beat them.

To wit: As I was writing, I learned that Kimmel is back! Gary and I canceled our subscriptions, but I’ll sure be happy to see Only Murders in the Building back on our docket again!

A somewhat different take in The Atlantic: Left-Wing Terrorism Is on the Rise. I haven’t yet tried to compare the two.
